It was interesting to read about life in a place and time that I am unfamiliar with. There was one line in the book that caught my attention. I guess it's the teacher in me. Boys finished school at eleven and went to work on the farm. It was stated that educational ability wasn't any more important than educational stupidity.
I tried to get the tv show from our library. All four seasons were checked out and two of them had holds.Prairie Quilternoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4992629493643960858.post-5307596633528375882011-04-08T10:48:36.359-05:002011-04-08T10:48:36.359-05:00I'm also still mulling Lark Rise. I spent a lot of time wondering how the TV series worked since although the book was interesting I don't think it would make good TV. I agree that Flora was trying to combat the Dickens but she wasn't really writing about the same environment as the large urban city. I think it would have been a much better read with a little more on Laura throughout the book and more about what it was actually like for her rather than the impersonal third person writer.

I'm looking forward to the next book being a novel :-)Bethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12033794635638388174noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4992629493643960858.post-82485364002925684302011-04-06T13:37:09.970-05:002011-04-06T13:37:09.970-05:00Since I read Fingersmith last month, too, interspe...Since I read Fingersmith last month, too, interspersed with Lark Rise, I need to write about my thoughts on it. And I haven't yet been able to summarize my thoughts on Lark Rise... There's a lot there, despite nothing happening.Mariekehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13251172733432029106noreply@blogger.com
