Need help, a clue. Is this an mammal you've never seen anywhere before, even in a zoo---or you've never seen one in the wild before?

To my knowledge, neither The Mister nor I have ever seen one of these before in the wild or in a zoo. We both mistook it for a rodent when we first saw it, making it neither buffalo nor bobcat.
Was it a native species? Was it an echidna? Or a dingo?
Ozzie reader is ridiculous. I think it was a very small whale.
it moved in the understory to alert us of its presence. Then it very kindly posed for us.
My first thought was "that's a big squirrel." My second thought was "that's a small fox." it was neither, of course.
Either a Hayden's shrew or a little brown myotis.
was it one of those sharpai wrinkly dogs?
ahhh, come on...let's play "guess that plant" so that i actually have a shot at it! :)
Was it a pocket gopher???
Oh wait - that's a rodent... How about a weasel?
