Since I have been a professor, spring break has always frustrated me. I expect to simultaneously relax, have lots of active fun, catch up with grading and lesson plans and catch up with household tasks. I never ever accomplish this in a week, and I return to class with a dirty house, a large pile of grading and without having baked fabulous star-shaped cookies.
Still, I spent enough time working non-academic jobs to know just how wonderful spring break is. It's fabulous. Reading the news right now it feels as if everybody could use a week detached from ordinary cares.
Happy Spring Break to those of you lucky enough to have one.
Make some sort of break for yourself for those of you who don't.
(Image from the groundhog party, but I think it captures the essence of what I think spring break should feel like, even if it never does.)

A nice picture, a pretty mommy and a handsome young man. Enjoy the last day of spring break. Get those vegetables planted so my grandson can have lots of healthy food to eat!
Hey Lisawen...
I'm sure you did plenty of wonderful things over break and will eventually get the grading done. Nate is in the same boat! Dianthus is so grown up and handsome. What was the event that you looked so pretty for?
TT-- It was the New Moon on Groundhog Island-- the celebration of rodents and lunar new year.
How succinctly you put it--all those unmet ambitions. You are right that enjoying the moment is the most important objective and all too often gets lost in these busy days. Thanks for the reminder. Fantastic picture!
Happy Spring!
I suppose it's pure vanity, but, beyond the carefree spring break demeanor, in this photo I don't look like a mother of "advanced maternal age" for which I need to see a high risk specialist.
This is a gorgeous photo of you - you look like spring incarnate!
