In certain lights (that evade photography, of course*), I could swear that I'm living with a little leprechaun and that both of the above-mentioned fates have befallen me.
That a being I gave birth to might be a blue-eyed red head fascinates me. Statistically, I know I carry all sorts of strange traits-- but red hair and blue eyes? Who would have suspected it?
*Particularly when photographed by me while attached to me.

Aww, he's a very cute leprechaun!
I wonder if he'll stay blue-eyed and red-haired. My mom pronounced Annika's eyes destined to be brown, but so far, they've stayed a dark blue with a faint ring of gold around the pupil. Not sure what creature of faerie such eyes might come from, but I like them.
I once gave birth to a blue-eyed redhead. He turned out to be a pretty good kid!
I agree that he's a cute leprechaun. And in my opinion they are both lucky and mischevious creatures.
Isn't the Mister reddish-blond? When I first saw your photo of Dianthus I thought, wow, his hair is just like the Mister's...
Yes, the Mister (aka son of prairie quilter) has hair that was red red earlier in his life. Dianthus looks much like him. But red hair and blue eyes, based on intro text book genetics, are both recessive, so if Dianthus has the traits, I carry them.
Indeed. A friend of mine was from a family of dark-brown haired and brown eyed folks, yet his biological brother had blond hair and blue eyes... We always used to talk about the statistical improbability of that, but then again perhaps the genetic mechanisms of hair and eye color are more complicated than is presented in textbooks... Anyway, fun to think about.
Red heads are extraordinary creatures. I was similiarly in awe when Meghan was born with red hair. I think it is a visual clue that he will have many surprises in store for you! He is certainly a cutie and his mischievous days are certainly in front of him!
Meghans auburn locks are now golden blond.
How is everything on the home front? He's certainly precious and those pictures make me want one of those with a passion! I'd love to chat sometime about baby-type things if you have any time...
All I know about hair and eye genetics is that they are more complicated than simple Mendelian single-locus traits and can't be predicted by the simple rules of blue recessive, brown dominant, etc.
I am curious just what Colleen will say about that..
