The Mississippi Kites arrived on a thermal at 7:10 yesterday evening (April 25). I may be mistaken, but it really appeared as if I witnessed the very moment of in-migration.

Speaking of birds, yesterday the dog and I accidentally got between the pond and a family of geese. They ran helter-skelter through the grass. The little greenish-yellow goslings were having a dickens of a time; one got caught in the grass and the dog was on the way to do what dogs do. I cut him off and caught the little 4 inch goose and took it to the pond. It took off, dove about 10 inches under the water and swam about 20 feet from shore under the water. When it came up the family soon reunited. So my good deed for the day was saving one gosling. I did not receive any thank yous from the adults.
