In the wrong time and place

"All squirrels are rodents, but in the wrong time and place, some are rats."

Written of Gray squirrels outcompeting Red squirrels in Gary Larson's charming, There's a hair in my dirt! A Worm's Story.

Just out of curiousity, are badgers rodents? There was a fine badger crossing the road today as I drove home from Dad's. He didn't seem too scared so I got to watch him quite awhile.

Badgers are not rodents, they are carnivores related to weasels. However, spotting one that doesn't scurry away is a major find. I've never seen one, American or European, and I'd really like to.
